Temps de reflexion

It’s very likely that you are here looking to explore a new avenue to find some elements of answers to questions or problems in your life that haven’t yet been resolved.

What if the trials we face in our lives were truly the repetition of the ones our ancestors were confronted with ?  Psychogenealogy approaches the person through their family’s interconnection.

You will find this process relevant if you feel burdened by family secrets, traumas and things that have been left unsaid which could potentially interfere in your life.

You don’t understand where your psychological barriers come from ?
You are under the impression that the same mistakes are repeated over and over ?

You encounter difficulties in your relationships ?
You may have noticed a pattern of dramatic events occuring in your family history ?

While it is true that our family history lives within us, we also have the ability to embrace our lineage.

It is up to us to explore our history and assess its impact on our life.

By changing our perception of the past, we can learn to live our present differently !

What does Psychogenealogy do ?

Psychogenealogy can be described as the psychological analysis of several generations within the family history. This method, based on genealogy research, uncovers the family line‘s memory and the ancestors' experiences that could potentially resonate within your present life.

As much as our ancestors pass on their values and passions, they also unknowingly relinquish a lot of baggage (psychological issues) as much as embedded experiences which have not been assimilated and could potentially exert influence on our own fate. Hence the reason we use the term transgenerational memory.

Every family has their share of traumatic events

As you would expect, everyone has their own way to react to situations. How it is passed on through generations depends on the way the situations have been dealt with. In the case of repressed and omitted traumas, they will find a way to creep back into the next generations.

By putting words onto the pain, we pave the way to the unearthing of belief systems disrupting your life. With the assistance of psychogenealogy, we widen the possibility to let go of our family’s emotional baggage so we can begin to detach from the psychological, physical and emotional effects of experiences that do not belong to you.

Origins of Psychogenealogy

The possibility of transferring unconscious trails from one to another was first mentioned by Sigmund Freud, followed by Carl Jung who upheld this theory and suggested a collective unconscious to explain the intuitive continuity across generations.

Psychogenealogy distinguishes itself by merging several complementary theories focusing on family unconscious dynamics supported by leaders such as J.Levy Moreno, F. Dolto, N. Abraham, M. Törok.

However, we owe the development in the 70s of the transgenerational approach in France to Anne Ancelin-Schützenberger.

She identified two layers of transmissions : intergenerational transmission which is verbalised and passed on to the next generations on a conscious level and transgenerational transmission which involves repressed, even denied, events passed on unconsciously to future generations.

For whom ?

Psychogenealogy is an interesting approach for anyone who wishes to explore new avenues. Psychogenealogy allows you to view your issues with a new perspective so you can take a step back and look at the overall picture.

This method is suitable for everyone, even if you have very little knowledge about your family history.

Spotlight on the transgenerational transmissions

As a means to uncover those unconscious trails, an outline of your family tree is created

Your family tree is then refined with the sociological dimension including the historical, cultural and social environment of your ancestors.

Taking into consideration those sociological variables provides a better understanding of the circumstances in which traumas, unresolved conflicts and misunderstandings transpired in previous generations.

Thus why all significant events are acknowledged in the diagram showing the relationship across generations in a family. This approach unveils the events which have had a psychological impact on our ancestors, allowing a better understanding of yourself through a more significant knowledge of your family ties.

Everything we do not fix, we repeat

When discussing your family tree, some information can be eye-opening and provide invaluable clues to reveal past events, often linked to underlying issues that you may currently experience.

Well beyond the family tree, the diagram that we call “ genosociogram “ allows an assessment of every painful experience lived through so as to identify the family’s patterns.

After this stage has been achieved, the opportunity to release the emotional wounds from the past will arise for the purpose of severing the recurring cycle and finally making it possible to overcome those emotional scars.

Transgenerational analysis

This approach is particularly suited for coping with widespread psychological trauma accumulated over several generations, and more than often, undisclosed.

A transgenerational analysis offers the possibility to make some hypotheses likely to enlighten your dilemmas or setbacks as well as reunite you with your roots.

The aim is to help you gain a better understanding of the issues you may encounter in your life which could resonate with unconscious transmissions passed on by ancestors.

The pathway you are creating allows you to reach a new understanding and perhaps help you see the decisions your ancestors made with the resources they had available at the time, with a better understanding.

Conduct of a psychogenealogy session

The first session gives the opportunity to discover whether this approach is right for you. From our initial discussion, we take a moment to delve into your history.

After having selected a theme, we factor in the central thread you wish to dig into.

Then, we embark on the construction of your genosociogram (Family tree factoring in sociological aspects) so we can start to identify the unconscious transmissions intrinsic to your family.

This interactive approach involves you in the process where you are encouraged to investigate your lineage.

The outline of your family tree will expand alongside the following sessions through constructive discussions leading to greater insights.

This will lead to a process of working to address the issues identified, therefore conveying a sensation of relief and gaining a new level of serenity.

The number of sessions depends on the issues you wish to address and your rhythm.

✓ Contributes to a greater awareness of your personal history

✓ Leads to a better insight of recurring patterns which could unwittingly influence your life

✓ Gives the opportunity to undo a strenuous legacy in order to thrive and have a fulfilling life

✓ Enables the voice of your ancestors to be heard and welcomed

✓ Empowers you to release an unacknowledged trauma and reclaim your life

✓ Encourages you not to repeat the same mistakes or experience the same difficulties as your ancestors, to restore your own power and make your own choices without influence from the past
